NEW DELHI (Oct. 17, 2025) — Google Cloud said Tuesday it will invest $15 billion over the next five years to build its first artificial intelligence hub in India, located in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
The project marks Google’s largest investment in India to date and aims to support the government’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision of becoming an “AI-first” nation. The AI hub will include gigawatt-scale data centers, expanded fiber networks, and a new subsea cable landing to boost connectivity on India’s eastern coast.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said the investment will create high-value jobs and accelerate AI adoption across sectors. The company will partner with AdaniConnex and Airtel to deliver high-performance infrastructure for businesses and startups.
Google said the hub will run on clean energy systems developed with local partners to support India’s renewable energy goals.
The announcement comes as global tech companies race to secure a foothold in India’s fast-growing AI ecosystem, raising questions about data sovereignty and foreign control of critical digital infrastructure.
